Barclaycard unveiled the new look and name of its credit card that will combine Oyster smartcard, credit and contactless functionalities. The company also said the new three-in-one "OnePulse" card is on track to be launched across London this September as the only UK credit card that combines the Transport for London (TfL) Oyster contactless travel pass technology for commuters who live and work around London with its traditional payment function. As well as tapping in and tapping out on the underground, trains and busses, users of the new credit card will be able to make purchases of up to £10 without having to take their card out of its wallet. Using Visa payWave technology, consumers will be able to make quick purchases on the go. Jasper Wight, Chop'd managing director said the new payment system would suit his fast-food business, where 95 per cent of its transactions are under £10. "We see contactless as a way of reducing this risk and some of the management time that is required to cash-up. We can't wait for it to be up and running in our stores this autumn." Elizabeth Chambers, Barclaycard chief marketing officer said in a statement: "We believe Barclaycard OnePulse is the future of payments in London." The provider, which is the UK's largest credit card provider, has aimed to recruit 2,000 retail outlets near public transport hubs ahead of the September launch. Other credit card providers will also launch contactless payments, with the Royal Bank of Scotland and American Express announcing their own versions. The industry expects five million contactless cards issued by the end of next year which will be accepted in over 100,000 retail outlets. Other cards have also been launched to reduce the need to fumble around through wallets for cash. Starbucks launched a pre pay card, which 100,000 customers registered for in the first week. |
