Zimbabwe, Stakeholders in the marketing profession have come up with an association - the Marketers' Association of Zimbabwe - in a bid to ensure that outstanding marketing is learnt, recognised and implemented to the highest level for business sustainability and the development of the economy at large. Speaking at the official launch held in the capital yesterday, MAZ president Mrs Ansha Chimbgandah said the need to establish such an association was inspired by the realisation that the profession in Zimbabwe was not being given the recognition it deserved with some marketing posts being taken up by "infiltrators". She added that there was also a lack of a networking facility in the country for marketing executives to meet and exchange ideas, leading to gross fragmentation of the profession. "The economy requires the development and implementation of marketing strategies through an interactive platform. "The image of the profession has been tarnished especially by infiltrators emerging from other professions claiming undeserved marketing positions," she said. Mrs Chimbgandah said MAZ would promote the implementation of professional marketing ethics and norms in business operational systems. NicozDiamond managing director Mrs Grace Muradzikwa said the launch of the association came at an opportune time as some companies were doing away with marketing departments due to the economic hardships. The launch of the association would therefore bring recognition to the profession which Mrs Muradzikwa described as the backbone of business. Referring to marketing executives who attended the launch, she said: "As marketers you should also be able to read the macro-economic environment, demonstrate an understanding of financial management issues and show that there is a core relation between what you do and the final output of the organisation." Business and marketing executives from various companies such as Zimpapers, OK Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe Tourism Authority attended the launch. Source : AllAfrica.com, Washington |
