Syniverse Technologies, a leading provider of technology and business solutions for the global mobile telecommunications industry, announced that it has opened a new regional office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to serve as regional headquarters for its Middle East and Africa operations. Oubay Atassi will head the office and serve as Syniverse’s new managing director for the region. “The Middle East and Africa are experiencing tremendous growth in the mobile telecommunications industry, so establishing a permanent presence in the region was a natural step for our organization as Syniverse continues its global expansion,” said Eugene Bergen, Executive Vice President, EMEA, for Syniverse. “We’re also excited to have Oubay leading the team in Dubai. His experience and understanding of the market is outstanding, and I expect his contributions to our company will be significant.” The regional office will be headed by Oubay Atassi, who joins the company after a run with iBasis Inc., an international long-distance telephone and VoIP company based in Burlington, Mass. Atassi has spent more than 20 years in the international telecommunications industry in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America and the United States. Syniverse has been working to expand its presence internationally in recent months, including a new deal it signed in June to provide data-clearing services for SmarTone-Vodafone of Hong Kong. The company also has been trying to make strides into Europe with a planned $290 million takeover of Billing Services Group Ltd., a deal that is now being scrutinized by the European Union to ensure that such an acquisition wouldn't hamper competition. |
